The Sense of Achievement from CrossFit From struggling just to hang on the pull-up bar at the beginning, to now being able to string together several Toes-to-Bars; from being terrified of handstands and unable to even kick up, to now confidently supporting her own body. When you unlock a movement you once thought was impossible, that sense of accomplishment and joy lasts much longer than any material pleasure.
Strengthening Both Body and Mind I feel like my mental toughness has become much stronger—this is Sherry’s deepest realization. CrossFit training often comes with challenges. You might feel like you can't do it or that it’s impossible, but as long as you use the right methods and invest the time, you will find that the feedback from your body is real.
After-Work Bliss For office workers like Sherry, the most charming thing about Bakesi might be that it is a completely independent other-world. Once you step inside, for that one hour, all you have to do is focus on the training in front of you. It’s a wonderful transition. When you focus on your breathing and movements, all those other bullshit worries are thrown out the window. Plus, there’s the community magic here—they will help you load plates when you are exhausted and cheer loudly when you want to give up.
You will find yourself progressing surprisingly fast because there is a crowd of people pushing you forward.
For Those Still on the Fence At Bakesi, every movement can be adjusted. If the weight is too heavy, it can be lightened; if you can’t do a movement, it can be scaled. You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start for change to happen. Just be like Sherry was at the beginning—bring your curiosity and walk down to the basement.
